We Road Tripped to Auburn, CA!

Ok so quick background: Bruno does NOT like road trips. He doesn’t love flying, but he’s warming up to that with experience. I, however; looooove a road trip. Making the playlist, choosing the snacks, and hitting the road. I love when the GPS tells me to “continue straight for 300 miles” (this makes Bruno squirm in his seat). So it’s not a huge surprise that this was our first road trip in our 5+ years together.

Obviously, this was a weird Christmas for everybody. I chose (for the first time ever) to not fly home for Christmas because of the virus. Since plane travel was off the table, Bruno and I decided to drive up to visit my Aunt and her boyfriend (now fiancé!!!) at their home in Auburn, CA. We had never been before (most people have never even heard of this town) but it’s about 30 miles north of Sacramento, near Lake Tahoe.

We left the morning after Christmas and drove the 6 hours straight up the 99 freeway, switching drivers once. The hardest part of our trip was not being able to stop to pee because most bathrooms were closed due to covid. That was definitely not something I had planned on or even thought about haha! We got to the house around 3pm and I totally understood why my aunt loves spending time up there. The air is so fresh and the view of the trees and Lake Tahoe in the distance is just stunning. We got a tour of the house, and a short driving tour of the town before we came back to the house for dinner. The town is so cute and quaint and I can’t wait to visit again once the pandemic is over, so we can enjoy some more of the shops and restaurants.

The next day, we drove up the 80 north to Lake Tahoe, through and around the mountains to play in the snow. It was such a treat for me since I hadn't a good snow like that in quite awhile! We drove all the way to the Nevada side of Tahoe and then back, which was long but the view was great. We went back to the house and spent time with my family before we headed back to LA the next morning. Such a short but sweet visit and I am so looking forward to coming back later in the year when the seasons change.
